Lakin Valdez conducts the Vibrant Being/Theater of the Sphere workshop at La Peña
Cultural Center.

The Vibrant Being/Theatre of the Sphere Workshop is a motivational course designed
to enhance the natural learning and communicative abilities of each student by
exploring and developing the essential "vibration" of all living beings. The ancient
Maya of the Yucatan called this vibration Wuinik'lil (vibrant being) and described it as
the essence of all human consciousness in a dynamic universe. Physical, emotional
and mental exercises designed to unlock both individual and group awareness will
draw parallels to other world systems of meditation and movement, notably the
Greek, Chinese and Hindi schools, but the basic approach and terminology shall focus
on Mayan concepts, as the universal roots of Ancient American culture.

"MITO" PRESENTATIONS
Each student will be asked to present to the class a personal mito, or myth of self. By
utilizing workshop concepts, exercises and tools in their own unique way, students
will share with the class an idea / emotion / experience that illustrates who they are.

The purpose of the mito is to discover what it is that the students bring to the work -
the images, feelings and attitudes that they have about themselves. The mito is a way
to begin investigating the outlines of the soul - the soul being the animate shape, form
or impression that each person creates in the reality around them. Mitos are heavily
weighted because they underscore a central workshop concept: to believe / to create
/ to do. All the workshop exercises must find fluid expression in the act of doing. The
mito is the culminating exercise of the Vibrant Being Workshop.
