2024 Summer Program Details

El Teatro Campesino artists return to Watsonville this summer with a FREE YOUTH TEATRO PROGRAM

“Teatro de Nosotros” is a two part summer theater program.

Part 1 will be about developing a script and Part 2 will be about performing the original script! Youth can participate in one part or both.

NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

This program will be bilingual (English & Spanish) and is open to youth living or going to school in Watsonville.

Registration will be required in order to participate.

Youth do not need to participate in both sessions, however, if they’d like to, they will need to register for both. 

Watsonville Program Details June-August 2024

Part 1: Creating Our Story

 June 10th-15th, 2024

Monday – Saturday | 10am-1pm

Location:

Callaghan Park Cultural Center

225 Sudden St. Watsonville, Ca 95076

In this weeklong session, youth will take a deep dive into the creation process. El Teatro Campesino Artists will collaborate with youth every step of the way to support the development of a story. Creative explorations will include: theater games, visual art activities, group discussion, and storytelling exercises.

Later in June, an exclusive virtual reading will be organized with El Teatro Campesino actors and Part 1 participants to hear the first draft of the script.

Snack/Lite Lunch Provided During the Program

Limited to 15 youth between the ages of 8-15 years old.
Priority given to those who can fully commit to the June dates.

Part 2: Sharing Our Story

July 13th-August 4th, 2024

generally Monday – Friday* | 10am-1:30pm

Three-weeks of rehearsal in preparation for the new youth theatrical production. Part 2 participants will perform and bring the script created in Part 1 to life! Youth will be immersed in the production process from being cast in a stage role, memorizing lines and stage movements, working props and costumes, and at the end of the program be ready for a public performance.

Limited to 20 youth between the ages of 8-15 years old.
Priority given to those who can fully commit to the July/August dates.
