Lorena M. Ortega is an indigenous storyteller, playwright, director, photographer, poet, and pinch-hitting actor living on unceded Tongva land, present-day Huntington Beach. 

Writer of “Landback” – a story of resistance and resilience as a Native American community fights back for its ceremonial land.

Aaron Higareda (He/Him)

Aaron Higareda is a Southern California playwright currently pursuing his MFA in Writing for the Performing Arts at the University of California, Riverside. When he is not working, writing, or worrying about working and writing, he enjoys chilling with his partner and their three crazy-ass kids!

Writer of “Panquetzaliztli” – a play about siblings fighting over a Nintendo Switch, but when their crazy Uncle interferes, they learn how to forgive each other and get paid in the process.

Bernice “Bere” Espinoza; she/her/ella

poet/activist/advocate. She is a first generation American and college attendee, a Xicanx/Latinx Civil Rights lawyer. Bernice has been writing since she was 11 years. She derives her purpose from her faith and the community she serves. Her belief that she can always try to use her educational privilege and resources to serve others is what sustains her through challenging times. 

Writer & Performer of “Lessons Learned by a Pocha”Spoken word piece. I wrote this piece in 2003 as part of my graduation from undergrad. It was to honor my family and all the families who come before me to make better lives as Xicanx/Latinx

ISABEL QUIROZ (She/Her)

Born in México. Playwright, Director and actress. Graduated as Licenciada in Theatre by the Universidad Veracruzana. Currently studying MA in Theatre Directing at University of East London. She has been invited in different playwrights’ festivals in her country, as reader and lecturer. Founder of the theatre company “Teatro Glam&Roll”.

Writer of Binnilidxi“ – I wrote this piece inspired by my grandmother’s life. She was from a pueblo zapoteca in Mexico and was married young, but mainly is about one of her children, my auntie who dedicated her life to taking care of her, they were always together until my Abuela passed, they were their own home, their own familia, binnilidxi.

This past spring Community Members from the quad county area came together to dialogue, connect, and create. Inspired by these Community Circulos, two short collective creations were written by this community and guided by ETC Artists: Cristal Gonzalez Avila, Carlos Cortez, Dante Carballo, Clarissa Salcedo, Armando Franco, and Alfredo Avila.
