WHAT IS PALABRA?

Directed & Produced by El Teatro Campesino Artists, “Palabra Artist Showcase” is ETC’s annual event where multidisciplinary voices and performances converge into one show. Open submission process to submit short works (up to 10 minutes) to be considered for the showcase. Selected works are rehearsed, cast and directed by ETC artist. Showcases is performed at the ETC Playhouse in San Juan Bautista.

2026 THEME: “REMEDIO” (“REMEDY”)

What heals, nourishes, or transforms us? What helps us find our way back to ourselves and to one another? What is your remedio?

Is it a good laugh? Abuela’s advice? A recipe? Dancing in the kitchen? A ritual? A protest? A prayer? Music? A memory? A really good chisme session?

We invite artists, poets, performers, musicians, storytellers, comedians, and creators of all kinds to explore the theme of “Remedio.” Submit your ten minute pieces that honor the remedies we inherit, the remedies we create for ourselves, and the remedies we offer one another. We invite laughter as medicine, storytelling as healing, and art as a form of community care. 

Let’s remind ourselves that we are not alone.  Whether your remedio is risa, rebellion, ritual, resilience, or radical joy, we want to hear YOU in this year’s Palabra Artist Showcase.

  • 2026 KEY DATES:

    July 6th-July 19th – Online Submissions Accepted 

  • Week of July 27th – Notification of Artists Selected
  • August 24th-September 6th – In Person Rehearsal Dates (Exact Dates & Schedule TBD)
  • September 8th-September 13th– All Showcase Performers Required for Full Company In Person Rehearsal Dates 
  • September 11th-13th – Public Showcase Dates Sept 11th & 12th @ 8pm & Sept 13th @ 2pm

ARTIST SUBMISSION DETAILS:

Submissions may include but are not limited to fully developed: spoken word, monologue, short theater scenes, dance, music, video, visual art, and beyond.

  • *A total of 8-10 acts will be selected by a review committee 
  • *Selected artists will be offered a stipend for the feature of their work. 
  • *Preference for pieces that have minimal staging requirements and a max of 6 onstage
  • *Bilingual works encouraged (English, Spanish, Spanglish)
  • *Selected Artists can choose to perform their work or release that to the ETC creative team. 
  • *Selected acts performing their own work must commit to rehearsal dates prior to showcase
  • *ETC is not able to provide help with travel or lodging for out of town artists at this time

    *Complete the online Submission Form

  • *Preferred method of receiving submissions are non password protected links: (youtube, google drive, dropbox, etc)
  • *If unable to provide links, submissions can be uploaded into the form.
    • Accepted submission formats: video, audio, documents (PDFs)
  • *Submit up to (2) fully developed pieces to be considered, max length of 10 min each
  • *Please provide accompanying text or script for any video or audio submissions
  • *Expect communication from the ETC Team during the week of July 27th
  • *Submissions window closes July 19th 11:59pm
